IPL is the biggest cricket league in the world and it's only getting bigger with time. And its auction is also getting bigger and players are getting huge amounts of money every year.

This year, the auction was held on 24 and 25 November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This year’s auction was record-breaking and we got some surprises also. 577 players were auctioned, including 367 Indian players and 210 overseas players.

In this article, I will tell you the highlights of IPL Auction 2025

Let’s get started.

Teams And Their Purses

All 10 teams have been given the chance to retain a maximum of 6 players if they want to and their prices will deducted from their auction purse. After the retention process all the teams left with some amount to buy the players in the auction.

Punjab Kings only retained 2 players and they entered the auction with the highest purse of RS 110.5 CR. After the RCB entered the auction with 82Cr followed by Delhi Capitals with 73Cr.

These three teams had the highest amount while entering the auction.

Expensive Players

This year the records are broken and teams went all-out to buy their preferred player in the auction. On the top of the list, we have:-

1:- Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant was sold for a whopping price of 27CR to Lucknow Super Giants. This deal broke all records and made Rishabh the most expensive player in the history of IPL auction.

After parting ways with KL Rahul, LSG was looking for a new captain and a reliable wicketkeeper. And they got both the skills in Indian left-handed batter Rishabh Pant. Rishabh was known for his explosive batting and lightning-fast keeping that’s why he broke all the records.

2:- Shreyash Iyer

Shreyash was bought by the Punjab Kings at the price of 26.75 Cr. He is an Indian middle-order batter and also he was the captain of KKR last season and won the title. These stats are enough to justify his price. PBKS went all-out because they wanted a skilled batter to anchor the innings and have experience in captaincy.

3:- Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer went back to his team KKR at the price of 23.75Cr. He is an allrounder which increased his demand in the auction because every team needs a multi-tasking player. Iyer is an explosive batter and medium pacer which is a lethal combo in the game of cricket.

4:- Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep was sold to his old franchise PBKS at the price of 18Cr. Indian left-arm medium pacer is in high demand because he is having a fantastic run in T20 cricket and was the highest wicket-taker for India last year.

5:- Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzi Chahal was also bought by PBKS at the price of 18Cr. He is one of the leading wicket-takers in T20s for India. Buying him was a good move by PBKS to give strength to their bowling line-up.

Unsold Players

While some players bagged the huge amount other players went unsold. In this auction, some big players couldn’t find a team to play this year.

Australian star batter and orange cap winner in IPL, David Warner went unsold. This is the most surprising thing of the day because he is the highest overseas run-getter of IPL. He had some average performances last year but still, he has the caliber to perform well and support the team.

This list of unsold players also includes Prithvi Shaw, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan, and other big names.
